knnktr:

As a web designer, I think being able to grasp as much of the development process as possible is one the most important duties. Knowledge and experience of both disciplines has proved to be something that is quite sort after within the Cape Town digital advertising industry, and something I aim to keep improving.
Therefore, whenever I get the chance to do a little front-end dev, I jump at the opportunity; and the use of Tumult Hype has not only made this process extremely enjoyable, but highly efficient too.
If you’re a web-designer and have used Adobe Flash or After Effects before, even just on a basic level, you should definitely try this out. http://tumultco.com/hype/
In a similar way to Adobe Flash and After Effects, it allows you to animate along a timeline using keyframes. You are able to preview the result within the app, and once completed, it then exports all the javascript and html for you. BAM. It’s so easy to use and can produce awesome results.
Having a basic knowledge of html, css and javascript will make this process a lot easier to understand; and is necessary at times to produce what you want. But it is not needed, which is why this app is so great.
Here are 2 projects I have done for Knnktr using Hype:
1. Our website: https://knnktr.com.
We created a beta website in order to have some sort of representation online until we have the time and resources to create our dream website. As you can see its a simple design, but showcases our work in a beautiful way and was relatively painless to make with the use of Hype.
2. Brutal Fruit Facebook App called “Own the Look”: https://www.facebook.com/brutalfruitsa/app_340341616007017
Something we had to include in this was the use of Facebook Connect, a task which normally would require the skills of the dev department. Until now… We will be blogging about this soon, so I’m not going to give away our method just yet :)
Hype recently deployed a massive update to their app, which I got the full use of in the last project. It was fun, and I can’t wait to do more.

Making fullscreen overlays without JavaScript

llptips:

In case you were wondering how to make a fullscreen overlay with pure CSS and you don’t have to worry about browsers that don’t support position:fixed, this code should do the trick (if you make sure your html, body is set to 100% height):

#overlay {
  position:fixed;
  top:0;
  left:0;
  bottom:0;
  right:0;
}
